Poetry Music Festival had its humble beginnings as a concept: find a place to showcase many of the musicians we knew throughout
The first Poetry Music Festival was held on Saturday, September 15, 2001, in the back forty of Dennis and Tami's ranch in Poetry. Held just a few days after the 9/11 massacre, the mood was somber, yet all involved felt a sense of needing to "live our lives" in a normal fashion. There was plenty of rain, plenty of good musicians, an awesome garage jam session as we waited out the rain, and some pretty cool festival T-shirts.
Encouraged by our success with the first year, it was decided to go forward with the project. A bigger venue, complete with a stage and professional sound system provided by Aldredge Stage and Sound, and year two was underway. All agreed that Luther's Donkey Pasture was the perfect setting for the festival.
With a couple of good festivals under their belt, the group decided to move forward, adding a new and bigger stage, as well as better sound system and lighting.
Past performers include Fishsweat, Cool Ray and the Polaroids, Katie Mariah, Band a Coots, The Price of GasRaised by Tigers, Camfield Way, Band a Coots, Highway 34, Dallas Ukelele Headquarters, Hard Country, The Bad Monkeys, bobbi, Oscar Garcia, The Nathan Johnson Band, Whit's End, Over the Hill Gang, Hunt County Ramblers, Naked Violet, Buck McArthur, Larry Copher, Stone Jackson, The Enforcers, Piranha Brothers Blues Band, Botkin, Addudell and Martin, Jack Whitby's Mercenaries, featuring Dave Thomas and Steve Howell, and many more.
The Tenth Annual Poetry Texas Music Festival will be held October, 2010. This event will feature some of your favorites from past festivals, as well as some new talent that is sure to get your Music-Festival-Wee-nee a tinglin’ and a shakin’!
